Research Billing Compliance Specialist Job Summary:

 The Research Billing Compliance Specialist will work directly with the Associate Director and Revenue Cycle team. Assist with reviewing and analyzing hospital claims to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines, the approved informed consent document and fully executed clinical trial agreement. Formulate recommendations based upon the findings and communicating them to the appropriate personnel. Assist with reviewing and analyzing claims data for potential compliance concerns. Organize with applicable parties to complete action items identified from various reviews. 

 

Research Billing Compliance Specialist Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Working knowledge of clinical trial billing, National Coverage Decision 310.1, familiarity with the research billing coverage analysis process, ability to read and pull relevant information from a clinical trial protocol, informed consent and research subject billing report. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with multiple departments. 

Research Billing Compliance Specialist Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline required, i.e., pharmacology, nursing, biology, etc. or relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with medical terminology required.
  • Experience with HCPCS/CPT coding preferred.
  • Familiarity with different types of clinical research and the drug development process preferred
  • Understanding of FDA regulations related to clinical trials involving Investigational New Drugs (INDs) and/or Investigational Device Exemptions (IDEs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medicare coverage decisions, benefit policy manuals and billing processes preferred. Skills:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong investigative skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel tables, formatting and basic calculations required.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and attention to detail.
  • Able to work in a team environment and maintain a positive outlook.
  • Able to learn and apply technical knowledge in the areas of clinical research, medical coding and revenue cycle in a consultative manner.
